Benefits of Hemp

Choosing products which are both good for your health as well as good for the planet is becoming a priority for more and more people. Whether it’s cleaning products, cosmetics, clothing or solar panels for your home, manufacturers are finally starting to succumb to consumers’ demands for “green” products. If you already enjoy the many benefits of getting regular massages you will be happy to know that there are more and more “green” massage products available for massage therapists as well.

Many of these massage products are made from plants which have been grown organically and which also have many health benefits. One such plant is the hemp plant. Both massage oils and massage linens are available which have been made from this amazing plant.

Hemp Oil

While there are many good massage oils to choose from, hemp massage oils are especially good for your skin. The oil is derived from raw hemp seed. It contains both Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids, as well as GLA (gamma linolenic acid), all of which have numerous health benefits. It also contains Vitamin D. Unlike massage oils which contain potentially dangerous chemicals, parabens, and other ingredients, massage oils made with hemp will not harm your skin or your health in general.

Hemp oil is an excellent moisturizer.   Rather than merely coating your skin, massage oils made with hemp are easily absorbed by your skin. Not only will it soothe the skin, it can help improve the skin’s ability to retain moisture. This is especially beneficial if your skin is dry or damaged in any way. Hemp massage oils have properties which naturally reduce inflammation and help with healing. If you use it regularly it can also hinder the aging of your skin. Your skin will feel both softer and smoother with hemp massage oil.

Hemp Massage Linens

Massage linens made from hemp are also becoming more and more popular. Compared to cotton, hemp is an amazing fiber. Not only is it four times as absorbent as cotton, it is also much softer. In fact, the more the linens are washed, the softer they become. It is a very strong fiber, so hemp massage linens will last for a very long time. Hemp wicks away moisture much better than cotton, which will keep you drier if you perspire while lying on the massage table. Hemp linens naturally resist bacteria and fungus, which is also good for you.

Ecological Benefits of Hemp

Hemp is good for the environment in many ways. Unlike cotton and many other types of plants, it can be grown in almost any climate and requires minimal water. Growing hemp also requires very little, if any, use of dangerous pesticides and herbicides. It also doesn’t need much fertilizer to thrive. One acre of hemp produces up to 3 times as much fiber as an acre of cotton.  Hemp is a very renewable resource.

Next time you go for a massage, ask your therapist if he or she uses products made with hemp. Your body and the planet will both benefit from massage products made from hemp!
