Frequency Asked Questions on Natura Massage Products

Touch America Technical Questions:

What should I do? My motorized table just stopped working.

You should call TouchAmerica Technical Support at 800-678-6824, but first some basic trouble-shooting might be a good idea. Problems reported by customers can often be corrected by the table owner in just a few minutes. Even if that's not the case, the more info you have when you call the faster we'll be able to identify the problem and get you back up and running.

If your motorized table is not responding then try to verify the following in sequence:

• Is your table plugged into the wall? If not, plug it in.
• Is the circuit-breaker in your wall panel still on? If not, make sure you're not overloading the circuit with too much other electrical equipment, then reset the breaker and try your table.
• Are all the motor, power, and control device cords properly plugged into the control box (the unit that the hand or foot switch plugs into)? Occasionally these become accidentally disconnected when tables are being moved, cleaned around, etc.
• Do you hear a whirring noise when you activate the foot or hand control? This would indicate your motor is trying to lift the table but is physically damaged in some way, possibly a broken shear pin or mounting bracket. This type of damage is usually the result of trying to lift a weight greater than that for which the table is rated. Call us.
• Do you hear no noise at all? This can be a dead motor or a defective control box (the unit that the hand or foot switch plugs into.) It can also mean a defective hand or foot control. Because these items are susceptible to being dropped and kicked, they often cause tables not to work. Review the item below, then call us.
• Do you hear a clicking sound coming from the control box? This is almost always caused by the foot or hand control not being plugged in fully. The therapist may have inadvertently tugged too hard on the control and pulled it partially free. Firmly reseat the hand or foot control plug and try again (on pedestal, hilo, cello, and marimba tables it can take a surprising amount of force to get the plug fully seated. Press very firmly. If this doesn't correct the problem, please call us.

Prior to calling TouchAmerica check your hand control or foot pedal for the manufacturer's name. It will be either Linak, Magnetic, or Linemaster. This information will help us serve you faster.

What is the proper way to operate my hot towel cabinet?
There are several steps you can take to ensure many years of trouble-free operation of your TouchAmerica hot towel cabinet. The first is to remove any wet towels from it at the end of each treatment day. We also recommend leaving the door ajar slightly overnight to prevent odors. Lastly, be aware of the substances to which you expose the unit. Certain essential oils -- particularly those of the mint family -- are somewhat volatile and can cause a chemical reaction with the rubber gaskets on the door of the hot towel cabinet, causing them to melt. This can easily be avoided by wiping down the interior of the unit at the end of each treatment day.

How do I insert my flex arm rests into the sides of my massage table?
You may notice that the metal rods on your flex arm rests are further apart than the holes on the side of your table. This is by design. The armrest is hinged in the middle, underneath the upholstery. To get the rods to line up with the holes on your table you need only bend each armrest so that the middle "flexes" up and draws the two rods closer together. After inserting the rods in the holes and releasing the armrest the outward pressure will hold it firmly in position.

Why won't the manual-lift head or leg section of my table stay where I position it?
Your table has hydraulic cylinders under the head and foot sections which control the lifting function. A small trigger on the end of each cylinder must be depressed to allow the table section to be moved, and the same trigger must be released to hold the upholstered section in the position you desire. If the head or leg section won't lie flat, or if it won't stay in the position you place it, there is a small chance the cylinder has worn out or the trigger is not operating properly. The hydraulic cylinders are under pressure and may cause the table top to rise or fail to support weight if the locking trigger is not functioning. If so you can order a replacement from us. More often, however, your cylinder release mechanism only needs to be recalibrated.

How do I make my face cradle hold more securely?
After a period of continual use the adjustable facespace will require tightening. The need for this will be hastened if undue downward pressure is routinely applied to the mechanism, such as clients accidentally sitting on the facespace or using it to push up from the table after a session.

What table size is best for me?

One of the most important choices you'll make about your massage table is its size. Ideally, the table will be wide enough to comfortably accommodate clients yet narrow enough (and at the appropriate height) to ensure good body mechanics. Efficient body mechanics become even more important in a busy practice. Make sure you can step in close enough to direct your body weight through relaxed shoulders down through your hands. Our standard width of 30" is chosen by 85% of therapists who find that almost all their clients fit comfortably on their table. Please note: Custom Craftworks tables are upholstered so that there is more positioning room on the surface (by wrapping the foam so it is more "square" at the side.) The standard adjustable height range of 25"-35" (on the 3" foam tables) offers a generous 10" range so most modalities are easily accommodated.

You're always welcome to call us if we can offer any guidance for your particular situation.

Which face rest makes best sense for my practice?

The best way to choose a face rest is to ask, "How do I wish to position my clients' head during treatments?" With our most popular face rest, the Dual Action, you can tilt the head downward, lengthening the neck and creating light traction. The Dual Action also elevates almost 3" above the plane of the table, bringing the face rest to the appropriate level for large-chested clients. The Dual Action is simple, operates with a single cam lever and is close to the table so clients stay well supported. Our Deluxe Adjustable Face Rest is a value-priced , lighter weight version of the of the Dual Action. The Pivoting Posi-Tilt gives you an excellent tool for positioning your client's head laterally by pivoting 30 degrees in either direction, and includes the features of the Dual Action. This allows for passive stretching of the neck and lets you shorten one set of lateral neck muscles so that you can work in more deeply with less resistance. This is truly a revolutionary advance in positioning capacity. For treatments where clients are face down for very brief periods, or for non-professional treatments, the Stationary Face Rest is adequate. The Crescent Face Hole offers a nice way to combine a face rest pillow with a face hole for more comfort. Face holes create a shorter working surface and may need the addition of a table extender.

For client comfort, is the thickness of the foam the only difference to consider?

The foam on your table will not only determine your clients' comfort level but will also affect the long-term wear and appearance of your table. In our research and experience, we have found that it is not possible to use lightweight foams without sacrificing long-term quality, as lightweight foam does not hold up over time. Our denser, better quality foam has more substance between air pockets compared to lighter foams. This means it will take longer to break down the structure of our foam allowing for a longer life. All of our foam systems feature high and medium density foams for solid yet resilient comfort that resists sagging or flattening over time.Beginning in Summer 2008 , we will feature plant based foam systems on our domestic products.

What is the difference between upholstery materials?

All of our upholstery materials are comfortable, durable and easy to clean. Our standard upholstery covering, Levante vinyl is relatively supple, wears well and is easily cleaned. Duratouch is an optional upgrade made of high-tech polyurethane fabric with the soft feel of fine leather. We highly recommend Duratouch, which is delightfully supple and has a slightly thicker backing that allows it to hold its shape better and upholster beautifully. It is slightly textured and holds sheets better.

What is a "real" Lifetime Warranty?

We were the first of the major manufacturers in the table industry to offer customers a Lifetime Warranty. It is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to care for and serve our customers. A customer places their trust in us and we live up to that trust. We continue to warranty the structure of our table for as long as the original purchaser owns it.Our lifetime warranty is simple and straightforward. In the rare event of a defect in materials or workmanship, we will repair or replace the table for as long as you own it. We are committed to building products of high quality that will serve you for the life of your practice.

What is the advantage of double knobs on the table legs instead of one?

The principle is simple. Double knobs connecting the leg extension to the leg provides more stability than one knob. A single knob is a potential pivot point. We use a double knob design because it holds better laterally and also provide insurance in case one knob loosens. Clients feel more secure on a table that is stable, they can relax more fully. A one-knob table that "sways" can mean that clients can't "let go" and receive your work as deeply. Our double knob design gives you the extra confidence to do your best work.

The wood finishes and glues we use are non-toxic and lacquers are water-based. Our foam contains no chlorofluorocarbons. Even our wood shavings are recycled! How to determine whether our massage sheets will fit your massage table.

Note: Our sheet sets are designed to fit almost all massage tables. In our experience, our sheets will fit about 98% of tables.  Every so often, however, we hear from a therapist whose table is too large for our sheets to fit.  If you think this may be the case with you, please use the following guide to decide if our sheets will work for you.

STEP 2 - How Big is your Table?

Length: Measure from head to foot of massage table. Most tables are 69-73" long.

Width: Measure from side to side of massage table.  Most tables are 28-33" wide.

Thickness/Drop: Measure from top surface of massage table, plus add thickness of any pads or blankets that will be under the fitted sheet.  Most tables are 4-6" thick.

Face Rest Cover:
Measure from crown of cover to bottom of chin rest.  If your face rest is longer than 12 inches, wider than 14 inches, or thicker than 6 inches, please call us to determine if cover will fit.

STEP 2 - Determine expected size of sheets after shrinkage.

Standard Flannel: Shrinks 6-10% after washing.

Poly-Cotton: Shrinks 2-5% after washing

Luxury Flannel: Shrinks 4-6% after washing

Step 3 - Will they Fit?

Fitted Massage Sheet: Calculate size of fitted sheet after washing, and compare length and width to your table.  If your sheets are wider and longer than needed, add half this amount to the drop.  Drops that are a little long are fine but if the drop is more than about 4 inches longer than you need, the fitted sheet might be too loose.  If you have no extra width and the drop is less than 1.5 inches over your table thickness, the sheets will likely be too short.
*Note: Our Fitted Sheets are all designed to fit tables up to 73" long, 33" wide, and 7" thick after expected shrinkage.

Flat Sheet: Calculate size of fitted sheet after washing, and compare length and width to your table.  Add about 16" (for client coverage) to determine needed length.  A little long is usually OK, too short is a problem.  Add about 24" (for client coverage) to determine needed width. Too long is OK, too short is a problem.
*Note: Our Flat Sheets are all designed to fit tables up to 73" long, 33" wide, and 7" thick after expected shrinkage, with enough extra fabric to cover most clients, even during position changes.

Face Rest Cover: Calculate size of face cradle cover after washing, and compare to your cover.  If your face rest is longer than 12 inches, wider than 14 inches, or thicker than 6 inches, please call us to determine if cover will fit.
*Note: Our face cradle covers are designed to fit the standard cradle covers of Oakworks, Custom Craftworks, Stronglite, Earthlite, Astralite, and Living Earth Crafts tables.  If your table was made by another manufacturer besides these listed,
please call us to determine if cover will fit.
